Where Is Your Treasure?

Only wisdom that comes from heaven can imbue one’s life with lasting purpose. F. La Gard Smith.

The book of Ecclesiastes seems repulsive with Solomon’s negativity. What Solomon brings into focus is what happens to our perspective when we turn our back on God; when we have “other gods before Him,” our focus becomes skewed. God’s wisdom helps us to see and to understand where our treasure resides, which either links us to, or distracts us from our purpose.

I used to think that other gods were various addictions and behaviors alone, until I learned that idolatry is placing people or pleasure, before my love and worship of God. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21 (ESV).

 Where is your treasure?

  • Who or what is taking up residence in your heart? =Your treasure
  • How much time do you spend on that person [including self] or pleasure? =Your treasure
  • Are you prone to worry? [We only worry about that which we treasure].

Today, I want to encourage you to take some time to think about where your treasure is. Ask Holy Spirit to show you, then [repent] take any time needed to confess misplaced treasure before the Lord. Know that God loves you and therefore will forgive you.

Father, thank you for loving us so much that You provide opportunities for us to examine our heart. Please help us to walk in loving obedience preferring You to everyone, and everything else. And to align our treasure in You. We love you and thank you for redirecting our focus. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Blessings in 2020,

Jacquie ♥

  1. It’s easy to create idols out of things and people. We must make the Lord a priority so we don’t lose focus of our true purpose in Christ. Thanks Jacquie for this important reminder. 🌼

  2. I think my computer had become my idol…NO that is a lie. I KNOW it had. even before reading this. A couple weeks ago I thought about how much time I spend on this thing. oddly enough (or rather Godly enough) my computer is having trouble so I can not just use it as I used to. I have to take breaks of a couple hours in between. I am now having to redirect my time back to reading non-fiction books about Jesus and God. that is why I think it is a God thing that the comouter is having trouble. I know where my priorites are supposed to be. I shouldnt need God to intervene to keep me on track. But I am glad He did– rather than just leting me go to far.

    1. Good point Kate, it is easy to get off track with our priorities, and I too thank God that He is faithful to intervene, usually with an interruption to the ‘usual’ way of being. I pray His blessing and continued intervention as He takes you to new heights this year. ♥

  3. Great post, Jacqui. Some people think that idols are things that you carved out of stones or wood. But, as you said, it is what you hold dear to your heart and things that you spend most of your time with. Some people’s jobs are their idols. Enjoy the rest of your evening.
