I felt the wealth as I sat remembering our after-school Bible club today. Gratitude swelled in my heart as I recounted what God had done for these children.

Pete: In our club last week, “Pete” was disruptive and argumentative. He would blurt out disagreeable thoughts, and he informed us that his mother had extensive talks about Satan and evil with him. At ten years of age, Pete was fearful, frenetic, and sucked his thumb.

I felt the wealth of gratitude today as Pete entered Bible club ready to participate, with a smile on his face! He still needed some coaching about following the rules, but he was more compliant, and seemed genuinely happy to be with everyone. During craft time, Pete mentioned that his father went to prison when he was four years old, and it was there that Pete’s father died. I felt the wealth of God’s presence as Pete sat still for the first time and listened intently as I shared a missionary story.

I felt the wealth of God’s transformative love as we began our Bible story review game. Pete was first in line, when “Mary” cut in front of him, and announced that she was first! Mr. Ken let Mary know that she would have her turn after Pete. Then Pete said, “That’s okay, she can go before me, ladies first.” Needless to say, Pete was given extra points for his selfless attitude, and Mary instructed to wait her turn after Pete.

My prayer is that we would remain thankful, and not just for a season or a day. That we would remain in the present to experience what God is doing all around us. The more we practice the presence of God, the more natural it becomes, and the more we will find ourselves pausing in grateful recognition and saying, “I felt the wealth” of God’s presence.

I would love to know your experience of feeling God’s wealth.
