Step Away From the Neutral Zone

Passion drives us to action. Passion is ignition, and a burst of energy that can lead to positive motion, but it has no lasting sustainability. Are you feeling flat-lined or fizzled out? Are you sure you were supposed to get involved in that activity? Now you are not so sure, maybe you are asking, “What was I thinking?” Or maybe you are supposed to be involved, but you don’t understand where your zeal has gone?

As I read my devotional for this Lenten season by Alicia Britt Chole, the instruction for today is to fast neutrality. Being neutral in some instances is reality, but harmful as a lifestyle. It is a trap to think that “if I just don’t choose a side, or hide what is true, then I can live in peace.” This false approach can dull the senses and remove you from your heart desires.

So how do we return to what powers our passion? A sure truth that Alicia points out is that love powers passion. In other words, action can surely begin with passion, but only love can sustain our commitment over time.

As I pray about adorning my soul according to Colossians 3:14: “Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” I realize this is an impossibility without help from the Author of love. He is love and He is Creator. It just makes sense to go to the source.

Pursuing an outfit of love each day, keeps me linked to that for which I am passionate. The marriage relationship, sharing Jesus with children and youth, and supporting children’s ministers, is a big part of what keeps me going. Remember the liberty and joy that comes when we make Jesus the Lord of our lives, and it is His love which keeps us fueled and moving forward.

What is your passion? Is love keeping you on mission, or is your realization that you got involved in an activity or cause – with only passion to fuel you?

Today, be mindfully thankful to the One who loves you so much that He Gave. Seek to emulate His love that gives, and energizes the passion He has placed within. Then pursue expression for this God-given treasure. And ask Him to clothe you in love, which keeps you from living in life’s neutral zone.

May you walk with renewed passion, love, and purpose as you fulfill your call to love others to life.

  1. Thank you for this truthful writing! It’s all about walking in LOVE! That is what God has been teaching me a lot lately. Without love our efforts are useless. ❤️

    1. So true! It is incredible how easy it can be to be lulled into cultural thinking. I have to be vigilant about this because sometimes the world’s reasoning seems like it is based in love, but behind it is self wanting what self wants. I pray for wisdom and discernment always. And I too embrace His lessons on love. He is so good to us! Blessings ♥
